By acclamation and Consensus vote.. The 4th General Assembly of ECOSOCC elects “Okeil” as Deputy Presiding officer for North Africa Region
The 4th General Assembly of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union elected Ayman Okeil as deputy Presiding officer of the Council for the North Africa Region, by acclamation and consensus vote of all members of the General Assembly; held in its 2nd session in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, during the period from December 11-13, 2024. “Okeil” took the oath before all members of the largest body that brings together African CSOs within the African Union, for the period from December 2024 to December 2026.
“Okeil” handed over the chairmanship of the cross- cutting Programs cluster, which he chaired for two years, after presenting his report on the activities and projects that were organized and implemented during his chairmanship of the cluster, before the General Assembly.
In this regard, Okeil stated that during this session he will seek to work on the programs planned by ECOSOCC and the African Union in accordance with the Sustainable Development Agenda 2063, and will also pay attention to coordinating work at the local, regional and international levels, and integrating international and regional mechanisms for the protection of human rights.
He added that he will work hard to provide support and assistance to establish national chapters of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council in African countries that have not yet established national chapters. He will also pay special attention to issues of migration and asylum, and protecting the rights of workers and children in the African continent from violations, as well as working to ensure that global companies respect human rights in the African continent.
It is worth noting that the Economic, Social and Cultural Council is an advisory body composed of various social and professional groups from organizations of the member states of the African Union that work to contribute and provide advice, and implement the goals, principles and policies of the African Union.
